We got all the trusses up from the pile they were in onto the roof, and they're all nailed up there now. The boys up top had a really hot time, but that didn't stop things from getting done.

Personally, this is my first time here. I've never done a mission trip of any sort before and I've certainly never been anywhere this hot before. I keep seeing things that are different from what I'm used to, and hearing about things even more unfamiliar to me. One of the most surprising things to me is how quickly I've grown to love all the people here. Everyone here is great, and the team is wonderful too. Watching everyone support each other warms my heart almost as much as the sun warms my skin.

I've learned a lot from this experience, and I know that this trip has already had a profound impact on my life. Seeing how these people go about their lives, despite hardship, makes me truly grateful for everything I have. I feel a great respect for these people, as this trip reshapes my perspective. I think it's going to be interesting once I get home, to see how much I still view as normal and how I'll look at everything differently.

Before I forget, today we gave away thirteen goats from Erin Newell's goat fund. She raised enough for twenty-one, and I know all of them will be greatly appreciated. (Note from Karen. Preschool students who received goats came directly from school but are not in uniforms as today is Friday.) Back in Canada, Erin asked me to get a picture of Gerry chasing after the goats. I'm sorry, but there was no chasing of goats so I didn't get the picture. I was looking forward to it just as much as she was, believe me. |And with that, I have exhausted my words. I'd like to bid you all good night.

Matthew, it looks like you're getting a tan! Sorry there was no "running of the goats" but it's probably too hot for them to run.

Thanks Matthew for a good blog. You will go home changed and you will notice things at home that we take for granted in a different light. You will always remember the children and how different their lives are and who knows where this will lead you in the future. Enjoy it all.
Good blog Matthew .. isn't God good? We take so much for granted when to these people a goat is little a fortune!!! God bless the givers and God bless the receivers. Great pictures also whoever took them!!!
And, wow! It is good to see the trusses going up on the roof .. hot work, but very reward and most of all, God will reward you all for the work you are doing. Matthew, you are young and I am sure this will not be the last time you will serve in Haiti!!! I am sure your life will never be the same again after this experience!!

Great blog Matthew and interesting to hear about how you are experiencing this cultural and environmental perspective. We all too often become fitted to what we perceive as normal in our daily lives without realizing that our daily routines and habits are not the same for all. Fellowship with cultures around the world in their daily lives is a learning experience beyond what can be taught. We, in stepping outside our zones of comfort, are enriched by the sharing of what others can teach us.
Enjoy this opportunity you have in learning about others in their culture and see how, in so many ways, we are the same as God has created us to be. I look forward to the stories upon your return. Prayers for a safe stay and journey home. Rod
